Real-time curtailment

The energy Brazil wastes.

R$8,701,471,499

accumulated from 01/01/2026 to now

Live estimate from ONS open data, verified through 09/26/2026. Details in the methodology.

The concept

The nameplate says one number. The turbine delivers another.

Nameplate capacity is the factory promise; accepted generation is the grid’s call, hour by hour. The difference between the two is clean energy that never gets to exist. That is what Nameplate measures, forecasts and puts to work.

Illustrative scene: the real numbers, plant by plant, live in open data.

The climb

In three years, the energy curtailed grew twelvefold.

3.7% in 2022. 5.4% in 2023. 9.4% in 2024. In 2025, curtailment amounted to more than a fifth of all of Brazil’s delivered utility-scale wind and solar generation — 43.8 TWh that never got to exist.

Why it will not end

It is not a lack of transmission lines. Or not only that.

ONS projects curtailment in about 14% of all hours by 2030, most of it structural energy surplus rather than a transmission bottleneck. New lines do not solve what is left over.

If the energy will be left over anyway, the question changes: who is ready to consume it when it is?

~14%of all hours with curtailment in ONS projections through 2030
10×in data-center consumption: from 0.3 to 3.5 average GW by 2030

What Nameplate does

Measure. Forecast. Put to use.

From raw ONS data to a signal that switches machines on: Nameplate turns curtailment into usable information.
